Visions of Enchantment
by Mary J. Dressel

A beautiful, red haired woman consumed with grief is led through a portal in time and a new era begins. . .

She is found wandering the streets in dated clothing by a young woman named Beth   She knows only that her name is Eryn.  Her pictures are posted by the media.  When no one claims her she is taken in by Beth's parents.  She marries Taylor Sterling and they have twin daughters, one who looks like her and the other who doesn't resemble her or anyone in Taylor's family. . .  After twenty years of marriage Taylor disappears without a trace.

While driving her daughter to college in another state, they encounter a dense fog, Eryn being intensely afraid of fog. . .

While looking for a place to stay, she notices an old book store, which she knows she will return to later.  They stop at a beautiful place called the Enchanted Inn.   As Eryn parks, she has her first encounter with the past.  She looks in the rear view mirror she sees a scene from a bygone era.  When she looks again, it is gone.  The owner of the inn is Uriah Prescot, a tall, handsome man with long blond hair and sparkling amber eyes.  Uriah is very interested in
Eryn.

The next day, she goes to Enchantment to the book store. She finds a book that foretells the future, saying she will be happy again and also a very old painting that looks as she must have as a young girl. . .  Emmet the book store owner is very secretive about his back room.  Could there be answers to her missing seventeen years?

On returning home, Eryn and Beth go through Taylor's things in the basement.  Beth finds a picture she hides from Eryn of Taylor with a blonde woman on his lap.  They find that Taylor was planning a trip to Enchantment to purchase a book for Eryn at Emmet's bookstore but Taylor never returned. . .  Eryn and Beth return to Enchantment and find the bookstore burned.  But who would have burned the bookstore and why?

Eryn goes back to the burned book store and finds an old picture album.  Eryn slips through the portal in time to 1882 and finds pieces to the mystery.  Eryn and Beth are on their way to the hospital to talk to Emmet when Beth's car stops.  Uriah grabs Eryn and takes her to a cabin far out into the hills.  For weeks he talks to her, hikes through the hills with her, and at night she dreams of a man with amber eyes from another time.

Fill in the dots, answer the questions and the truth will be yours!

Ms Dressel has painted an intricate portrait of two diverse periods in time and a love that connects the two.
Definitely a  five star read.

Second Five Star Review of Visions of Enchantment

~1882

Two young souls who loved more than ever thought possible...separated and lost to each other beyond all concepts of time.....

~Present day

Eryn Sterling is a woman abused and twice shy. Taking her daughter to a college in the town of Enchantment, a routine trip to a bookstore will set her life in a backward motion in ways she never thought possible. Uriah Prescot is a man fueled by nothing less than desperation and determination. He uses methods some may consider quite underhanded to claim the woman who left him more than a lifetime ago...a woman who remembers nothing of him or his claim of their undying love. Eryn is too busy worrying about the disappearance of her less-than-worthy husband to give Mr. Prescot a second thought. Her body, however, betrays her with remembrances of its own. She does not understand the visions that plague her...visions of a time long past. Eryn wonders...could it be? What should be? Is Uriah a rogue or my salvation?

And what of her husband? A man she has spent nineteen years with is not so easily dismissed.

Husband or no- it is not long before Eryn becomes bewitched by Uriah's captivating spell. She softens toward him despite her unwillingness to believe the unbelievable. Uriah remains frustrated that she will not accept him at face value, but continues his patient "courtship", knowing full well that her devotion in the end can be more precious than the value of any gems....if only she would listen to her heart and trust. As memories slowly return to Eryn, she eventually must make a choice. A choice of a life with a man from the past she loved beyond all comprehension many years ago, or a choice in the here and now that includes her best friend, and her two daughters-people she dearly loves and could never leave. Not even if they wonder if Eryn might have taken a ride too many on the Looney Express. Not to mention that nasty husband of hers... Where was he?

The truth of the matter of the deadbeat husband and the consequences of Uriah’s desperate actions has finally caught up with them, and threaten to tear them apart. Can their newfound love withstand such dire state of affairs? All the while~embers of passion are never far from the surface and threaten to explode between Uriah and the love of his life. Eryn, despite her better judgment, sets out to seek the truth, an end to their story. The end she seeks will bring their lives~a century and twenty years worth~ full circle. Neither Eryn, nor Uriah expect the maelstrom of events that will unfold from her timeless quest. Will these events bind them together for all time, or cause them to pay the ultimate price? At the end of this extraordinary, passionate trek, where will they remain for always? Will it be in the times of Internet, Chevrolets, and fast food? Or will it be in the times of a handshake and simplicity? Will they ever truly find their way home?

As a reader, I am extremely particular about what I read. Out of the next fifty books I will purchase, perhaps only about ten will fulfill my expectations. Mary J. Dressel not only met my expectations, she has exceeded them with her novel “Visions of Enchantment”. Where do I begin? Her fascinating prose and detail took my breath away. A simple touch, smile, or tear made me feel Eryn and Uriah’s passion, joy, and melancholy. Mary has written sensuality in a way where no one can deny the power of physical attraction. Believe me, I have read countless time travel romance novels, and it is a rare occasion when I find a novel that mesmerized me as much as Ms. Dressel’s.

“Visions of Enchantment” will make you sit up and take notice. Her characters come to life more with each turn of the page. So realistic they are; you may find yourself getting up to look out the window with high expectations of your own Uriah coming to find you! Kudos to you, Mary J Dressel, for a book well written! You have no problem whatsoever finding the heart and soul of romance. On a scale of 1-5, I give you five full bottles of Dr. Pepper! Needless to say, I love Dr. Pepper.

A Man's Opinion of Visions of Enchantment

“VISIONS OF ENCHANTMENT” As a man that never found much of interest in romance novels “Visions of Enchantment,” by Mary Dressel is not the kind of book I normally read. For years I’ve compared the books I like best to “ The Hunt for Red October,” by Tom Clancy as the standard. When my wife read “Visions” and told me I might enjoy it I gave it a try expecting to forget it the first time I put it down. It is a girl book but there is a great story there skillfully told with imagination to hold attention. I put it down many times for all the usual reasons of living but I was drawn back each time.

The story is based on time travel but the temptations and traps of trying to explain it were avoided in a way to make it easy to accept for the story. It is a good adventure that stays true to the plot with interesting twists and turns to keep the reader guessing what comes next and how it will be dealt with. Eryn is all woman with the same headstrong female logic of my wife and most women, making me want to pinch her head off at times. She is loveable if a little dingy. The reader has to root for her while wanting to shake some sense into her occasionally. Very believable. Ulrich has more patience than most men but he’s human with flaws like everybody else so you have to wonder about him and some of the abuse he puts up with. At first I wanted to drop him down a well. Things begin to come out right bit by bit so I learned to understand and like him. There are good supporting characters. Beth, Eryn’s best lady friend is a jewel of a character I’d like to see more of but I can’t see how it would help the story. Some are good people I enjoyed meeting. There are some that have lived too long but they have their jobs so I think of them as necessary evil.

Like the novel, “The Hunt for Red October,“ this is one of those stories you know where it’s going from the first but keep wondering how they’ll get there. At times you wonder why they want to. It keeps falling into place with difficulty for the characters, but interesting for the reader.    Tom Drennan.

Four Cups from Coffee Time Romance

In the year 1882, Eryn Matheson loses her parents and her younger brother in an accident. Leaning on her fiancé for emotional support, she mourns her losses until he convinces her to stay with her grandfather.

Uriah Prescot dreams of marrying the beautiful Eryn, but understands her grief over the loss of her family. Concern makes him suggest she stay with her grandfather. After one night in her grandfather’s care, she informs him of her leaving despite their impending marriage.

Twenty years and a century into the future finds Eryn married, then abandoned with two daughters. Uriah is now the proprietor of the Enchantment Inn in Pennsylvania, waiting for the love of his life. Having no memory of her past life, Eryn struggles with visions of a beautiful pair of amber eyes, and a love tugging at her soul. What she finds at the Enchantment Inn will make her question everything, especially her reaction to the proprietor.

Ms. Mary J. Dressel has written a beautiful, compelling love story, full of treachery and mystery. Eryn’s attempts to come to terms with her husband's departure make her a lonely soul, but her visions speak of a happier time with a different man, one whose embrace is both strange and familiar. Uriah’s determination to make her remember makes him scary and intense. I loved the notion of time-travel, and Ms. Dressel’s prose makes this book hard to put down.

Review

Hi,  I just finished your book and was surprised that I enjoyed it so very much.  When Tom told me it was about time travel I thought I wouldn't care for it.  That is usually not the kind of books that I read, BUT it was wonderful.  It is very much like some of Nora Roberts,(whom I love) Books.  I am anxious to read the sequel..  Is it going to be about Beth?  Or the girls? Or someone else?  ........

Just wanted to say "You go girl"
