Visions of Enchantment
Summer Update
News
In my last newsletter I said I was going to do some intense promoting for Visions of Enchantment. Since then I've been talking to libraries about book signings/ presentations, etc. I have one scheduled for September, another tentatively scheduled for sometime next summer, and one I am still waiting to hear about. There are a couple new coffee shops in my area, and I will be talking to them too. It would be nice to meet new readers and friends over a cup of coffee! Book signings are so special to me. I love meeting people who I can entertain in some way through my talent! Oh, did I mention I love talking about my book too?
More News
If you don't already know-- Ta Da... I wrote the ending to my sequel. I shouldn't say my sequel, for it really is your sequel! The Enchantment Series is moving along. I started outlining Book Three after I wrote that. I said I would put that series away for awhile, and get back to one of my other novels, but the next thing I knew, I had a notebook and pen, and started planning Book Three. New things are still coming to me as I am editing Book Two. It will soon be ready to submit to my publisher. So far, there will be four books in the Enchantment Series. The last one will be a surprise, and I just hope I haven't told anyone the plans for it or what it's about. I know I told my boys. I want it to be a surprise! I'm very excited about the upcoming books.
Even More News!
My next book, outside of the Enchantment Series, will probably be a Contemporary Novel. But then again, there is also a Vampire Romance waiting to be finished, too..
My short story for Amazon Shorts is still on hold. I need to find time to replace what I lost when my computer crashed. It will get there though, and I'll be excited when it does. If you've never read a short story on Amazon, I'm sure you'll like the way it works. It costs .49 cents for you to read it. It's a fun program.
Please check out my book signing page for information on what's coming up in my life.
Feel free to contact me. If you know anyone who might be interested in this newsletter, please send this to them. Thanks!! Have a great rest of the summer.

It’s been so hot lately! Spring came in showing us her blossoms, buds and pretty kelly green grass. Summer, on the other hand, came in scorching that nice kelly green grass to brown straw. At least that’s how it is in West Michigan.
The Balloon Festival is coming! The Blue Angels will arrive at a town near here soon, for the first time. We usually have the Thunderbirds. Hot Air Balloons are beautiful when the sky is full of them. They launch twice a day, in the morning and evening depending on the wind and weather. I’ll post pictures on my Blog afterward.
So, as our balloon festival kicks off, I’m kicking off a new book promotion, trying to set up book signings. My big goal is to go to Franklin, Pennsylvania. As some of you know, that is the town that Enchantment is loosely based on. I think it will be so exciting to introduce my book to them.
For Your Information
My brother told me that my nephew went to a book store to purchase my book, but it wasn’t there. Remember, they can order it for you, so please be sure to tell your friends that, after you tell them about Visions of Enchantment! Just a little sales pitch there... Or, anyone can always contact me personally for a copy. Of course, it won’t be in hand, immediately, but it will get there with a personal signature! My summer newsletters will be a little different this summer due to me working on the sequel, and my new short story. I revamped my website some, so how ‘bout taking a moment to look it over. I’m still doing a little more construction on it, so bear with me. If you ever have a question or comment, please contact me. Now, back to the sequel...
I’ve added about two more chapters to the computer. If you have read my BLOG lately, this will be a repeat for you, otherwise...
Writing Stuff
Both books were written in long hand, so it’s a task to put it all in the computer. I don’t mind at all because it lets me edit and revise as I go. My new short story is awesome! I can’t wait to finish it; I just can’t seem to write fast enough. I must warn you, this one is going to be a lot bolder, a little more erotic than my usual, but I’m trying my hand at it. Yes, I am also writing that in long hand. Mainly, because my computer is being used some of the day, so this way, I can sit down with my notebook anytime I want. Let’s just call it my ‘old fashioned laptop.’ I surely need a laptop.
I was writing on the short story the other day and a title just popped in my head. I hope that happens when I get back to writing my lighthouse novel and vampire novel, since they don’t have a title yet. Titles are so important. Some people just pick up a book by the title. I do! There’s a forum going on at Amazon right now, asking if people will read a book by an unknown author. Most of the responses are YES. (That’s good) Some are saying they pick up a book because of it’s title, some say they’ll look at the cover first, then read the back. I tried to keep those exact reasons in mind when I chose my title. I wanted it to be something that would attract my attention. I also look at covers, which is what you usually see anyway. Silly me thought that my cover would surely attract attention, but when I saw it in the bookstore beside other ones– WOW! There are some HOT covers today. But, I still love my cover. A funny thing– there is a commercial on TV for a male enhancement product. Next time you see it, see if the picture on the box reminds you of my cover! Now, if I could only get the world to notice.
As I said, my summer newsletters will be a little different for now, and I’m not even sure there will be a July or August issue. If there is anything new to report, I’ll put one together. I’d like to end this one by saying, "You keep reading, and I’ll keep writing!" Remember to tell your friends about Eryn and Uriah and about their Vision of Enchantment.
Thanks and have a happy and safe summer.
With special thoughts of all of you...

I hope to be able to spend some of my summer revising and editing the sequel to Visions of Enchantment. Oh, my goodness, you are in for some excitement! When I wrote Visions, my writing wasn’t as bold as it became in the sequel. Hope that’s okay with everyone! I’m so excited about this one, and I have no doubt you’ll enjoy it. You’ll meet some new characters, and see a little more of Enchantment 1882. If it were a movie, you’d be on the edge of your seat! I can’t wait to share it with you.
I told you last month that one of my short stories was going to be on Amazon Shorts. Not backed up... But, Amazon sent back the email with my story on it, and all I have to do is put it back in my computer, then resend it back to them, revised and checked over. Whew! After they receive it, it should appear in Amazon Shorts in about three weeks.
This month I don’t think I’ll do anything on my usual topic of What I know. By the way, in the future, I think that topic title will be changed to How I Write. Right now I am concentrating on setting up book signings.
My presentation, reading, book signing will be this month in Wayne, Michigan at the local library. Of course, if you’re there and reading this, you already know! Their bulletin says you have to register for the event. I hope to see you there if you live in the area. If you have any topics you’d like to hear about at my presentation, please let me know soon, and I’ll try to cover some of your inquiries.
Personal Notes
The other night I was on the phone with a Dell Tech for about two hours. He was in El Salvador. I asked him what the temperature was there. He said, "You can’t tell by degrees here. There are two ways to tell the temperature. It’s either hot and breezy, or hot and humid." Hmmm, guess I shouldn’t complain about our weather.
Well, the reason I was talking to a Dell Tech was because our computer crashed last week. All tests I did on it, showed a damaged hard drive. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case, and all I had to do was reload windows. This is a writer’s nightmare. Most of my writing was backed up. Backed up as far as the original writings. Anything new I added wasn’t backed up. Shame on me for that! Plus, we lost most of our pictures, but a lot are on CD. I also had over seven hundred on two memory cards, so thank goodness they were saved.
I have a new BLOG site. The link will be in this newsletter. I’ve also set up a page at PICTURE TRAIL, a site similar to My Space, but different!! Why not visit! I have some photos there, and will add more eventually. It’s just beginning. I’m afraid to go back to My Space since my site was hacked. Lord knows what someone is doing with my name. That’s frightening! BE CAREFUL...
To end this months newsletter, I will say again that I look forward to seeing you at this or other book signings. Remember, if your local book seller doesn’t have my book on their shelves, you can order it from them. Better yet, request they stock it!! Have a great day, and take care!

Happy Late Easter!
The days are gradually getting warmer. Today we had sun here in Michigan, but it's still on the chilly side. Yesterday the clouds looked like winter storm clouds. Last week winter returned with snow and wind. One thing about spring and warmer weather, is you start to see more skin showing! The kids in the middle school where I work sure are pushing the limits. They're beginning to find that their bodies have changed and grown during the winter, and the skirts are getting shorter and the tops lower. They're finding they've developed into a character different from the one they were a year ago. So, this brings me to the topic this month. Information on how I do my characters.
I hope you had a wonderful Easter, and a beautiful spring! Please forward this newsletter to anyone you think might be interested. Thank You!
Until Next Time...
Best Wishes,

WANT TO KNOW
A character in a novel has to appear as real as a living person. He/ she has to have strengths, weaknesses, flaws, moods, etc., just like you, me or anyone else. Recently, at an author signing, someone asked him if any of his characters were him. He said he thought that a little of him was in each character. As an author myself, I don’t see me in my characters, yet. But subconsciously, I think there must be some of my personality in them. Whether I want to believe it or not!
Sometimes it’s hard for people to realize that it really is the character that is doing the deed or saying the words, and not the author! I find myself defending some of my characters’ actions or words, explaining that, "It’s not me saying that, it’s my character!" While developing my characters, I make a profile of them. It would be terrible to give one of them a habit, and then have it show up later in another character. So, this way, I can always look back at their profile, even to make sure I didn’t forget something about them.
It’s also important to remember the characters’ morals and stick to them. If I go against them, I sure better explain why because you guys will catch me. I know I do when I read something! Although it is fun to get them out of character sometimes! Every once in awhile why not make an innocent sweet girl– do something totally off the wall– or out of character. For instance, take one who would never swear or get angry, and let her roll out a string of obscenities. But, like I said, she better have a good reason. Then, you can have her say, "Oops!" and give her back that innocent smile. Something like that would probably be acceptable, and we’ll forgive her. My characters become real to me. So real, that it’s hard to let some of them go. Therefore, a sequel! I try to put a lot of thought into my characters. I hope you like them, and you, too, will not want to see them go.
MY NEWS
My stepdaughter turned eleven years old this month! Happy Birthday, Taylor... It was also my spring break from work. A whole week off. Whatever did I do with five days? Well, I didn’t sleep in much. I didn’t do any spring cleaning, and I didn’t buy any new clothes for Easter. I've been very busy doing other things, important things concerning my family. What did you do on spring break?

Since Easter just passed, maybe you would like to go out to eat this weekend! I thought I would include a link for restaurants where you can type in your zip code and find local restaurants who offer discounts. A friend sent it to me, so I wanted to send it along to you. Hope you can get some enjoyment out of it. You can sign up for their newsletter, too. Have a great time!

March News and Things
Welcome to March, the month of unpredictability! The month of Spring-- new beginnings. I met my husband on the first day of Spring!
Today it’s seven degrees, but by next week it’s supposed to be near sixty degrees. Forgive me if I speak of the weather for the Mid-West, but it’s what I know. Speaking of what I know, this brings me to the topic of this months newsletter. People are always asking me how I write and where the ideas come from. This might explain a little. Please forward this newsletter to your friends if you think they would be interested. Until next time...

What You Know
Write what you know! This is an old cliche’ for writers, but some of the best advice I’ve ever had concerning writing. I’ll use my own writing method as an example. In, Visions of Enchantment, the environment or setting is all from what I know, with a lot of imagination thrown in to move the characters through it. Of course, I don’t know about time travel, but I do know about history. See what I mean? So, putting imagination together with what I know equaled a great story! Okay, okay, I wrote it, of course I think my baby is great...
I’m writing another story that has turned out to be quite challenging. It’s a vampire romance. Now, what in the world do I know about vampires, you might ask? Not much at all other than what I’ve researched or watched in horror movies. (My vampires wouldn’t fit in horror movies though.) But, I do know about love, family, stress, fear, loss and everything that goes along with that. I won’t say anything more about that at this time. I’m sure it’s a book you’ll look forward to in the distant future.
To wrap this topic up, I will share a final thought with you. Even if you don’t write, or never want to be a writer, you can still use "what you know" in everyday life. Stick to what you know then throw in what you believe in, and you can do just about anything you want!
My News
My first book signing went great! I had a lot of fun. The other authors with me seemed to enjoy it also. It’s funny that we all live in the same area, but have never met. I’ve never even seen them around! The library purchased two of my books for their shelf. That was awesome. The library staff was so nice, and had everything organized for us. My husband was able to be there with me. That was a special treat! I'd like to thank all of you who came by to say hello, and to those of you who purchased my book. I look forward to hearing from you! I’m looking forward to my next book signing this coming weekend. My next newsletter will talk about that. Please visit the links I've included in this newsletter. I found them quite impressive.

NEWSLETTER
February 2007
Hello, Everyone!
I am so excited about my first book signing this month! It will be at my local library, and it's going to be so much fun. It would be great to see you all there! I know that can't be possible, but one can dream...
There will be seven local authors to kick off the book my city chose to read as the Battle Creek Reads Program. I do believe last year was the first, and they chose Pay it Forward. This year the book will be Peace Like a River. There was a big spread in our local paper with color photos of all of us! Check out my website for more info, and a link to the library.
I added a few new things to my website this week also. Stop by and check out my new pages, Language of Love, and Reasons to Read Romance. Language of Love will tell you what rose to give for the proper meaning. Well, if you want to believe in that. For instance, a red rose means I love you. See what purple and yellow and other colors mean. Rose colors and their meanings orginated in the Victorian Era. The Victorian Era seemed so grand and proper. My heroine, Eryn, was a young lady in the Victorian Era. I learned to love it when I researched it. Also, view my page of Reasons to Read Romance. It's my own personal reasons, but I would love to hear yours, too!
On the personal side, this month has been very hectic with my husband being in and out of the hospital three times. Have no fear, I will continue to work diligently on the sequel and other writings.
I'm still waiting to hear from Amazon to see if my short story will be accepted. If it is, then you can download and read my stories for .49 cents. Isn't that awesome?! You should also check out my good friend, Meloni Cassidy, and her short story, Christmas with the In-Laws. She's a great writer, and a great author friend.
I will keep you updated on what goes on, in this writer's life, and I am so glad you're out there to read this. I always enjoy hearing from you.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! Be sure to hug someone today...
Until the next time... Take care, and stay safe.
