Sensual Romance by Author Mary J. Dressel

Romance With a Sensual Touch

I came across a Blog where authors can interview one of their characters.  I had a guest spot there, and then thought, "Why not put that interview here?"  So, you can read an interview with the Hero of the first two books in the Enchantment Series.  Enjoy!

Interview With Uriah Prescot, Eryn's Handsome Hero...

Uriah Prescot is the handsome hero in the Enchantment Series. I chose to interview him, because sometimes he’s misunderstood as to why he does some of the things he does. He has a heart of gold toward the ones he loves, but he’ll go to great lengths to get what he wants. If you cross him, be assured, he’ll win in the end. If you love him, you’ll experience a love like no other.

Mary: You can stop pacing, Uriah, this won’t take long.

"Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize..."

He sat across from me, and I could gaze right into those amber brown eyes of his.

Mary: Uriah, you left everything you had and loved to come through the confines of time on the whim of an old man telling you, you could find Eryn again. Why would you do that?

Uriah: "That old man was not just any old man! That was Eryn’s great, great grandfather who loved her enough to protect her. You weren’t there, you don’t know how I fell apart when that girl disappeared. Yes, I came through the Portal and left everything behind, including my sister and family. But what was promised to me was Eryn’s return. The only thing I ever wanted."

Mary: Yes, I do know, and I understand, but can you comment about why you came through that Portal?

Uriah sat there with his head in his hands, his long blond hair falling in his face and over his shoulders. He raised up and brushed his hair away from his eyes.

Uriah: "Because I trusted him. Don’t you see? I trusted him when he said we would be together again. Emmet knew things. He knew that Eryn returned to Enchantment. It’s true he didn’t know exactly when, but it was certainly no damn whim! He told me she would return, and he was right. How could I not take that chance?"

Mary: But you waited twenty years for her after you came to this present time.

Uriah stood, towering over me as I spoke directly to him. I can see why women wanted to please this handsome hero, and why men feared him.

Uriah: Yes, I did and I would do it again. Don’t you know how much I love her?"

Mary: That night when she finally returned, but didn’t remember you or her own hometown, you must have been so hurt when she walked in the door.

Uriah: "I knew from the beginning that she wouldn’t know me, or anything from her past."

He sat back down, dropping his head in his hands. Then he looked up at me and continued.

Uriah: "I knew, but I didn’t believe it really. I thought, hoped, she would take one look at me, and remember. It didn’t happen though. I wanted to take her into my arms immediately. But I couldn’t! A Sabre through my heart wouldn’t hurt as much."

Mary: Sometimes you were quite persistent, you must admit that.

Uriah: "I knew from that moment that I would do whatever I had to do to keep her from going away. I knew she would remember. I just couldn’t let her go away again without remembering. When her memories returned, it was up to her to decide what would happen next."

Mary: Remember on the road that night? You took her to your log cabin in the mountains, trying to convince her. At what cost was it to her and her daughters, to stay for three weeks?

Uriah:. "I said I would do what I had to do. She could have left at any time, she knew that. Eryn loved me once, she would again. You forget, I read the end of the story in Emmet’s old book. I knew things she didn’t. She finally began to believe in her visions. Eryn had a right to know about her past."

Mary: But what if things from her past hurt her?

Uriah: "I know it will hurt her, but I’ll be here for her forever. She’s a strong woman now, and she’ll get through it. All the memories aren’t bad, and she deserves to remember the good times too."

He smiled with that crooked smile, the Prescot trait.

Uriah: "The good times she had with me, by the river, in the bed in the loft. Should I continue...?"

Oh, his smile is so irresistible!

Mary: No, that’s okay. How can you be the judge of what she remembers?

He stood up, and shoved his hands into his pockets. I could tell he didn’t like being quizzed.

Uriah: "Because I know her better than anyone else. Eryn is my soul-mate and I am hers. You’ll see– You’ll see...."

Mary: And what about Taylor? You seem to have forgotten about him.

Uriah: "I haven’t forgotten him. He doesn’t care for her, maybe he never did. You know how he abused her. Do you think I can allow that to continue?"

Mary: No, I suppose not. Do you think her twin girls will accept you in place of Taylor?

Uriah: "I’m not the abusive one. I can’t imagine them wanting her to go through that again. I’m not taking his place... I’m just picking up the pieces."

Mary: You seem to be able to fit into the past and present– you know how to adapt to both worlds. That must be difficult.

Uriah: "Not really. It’s what I know. For twenty years I’ve been running the Enchanted Inn. I do it all. It’s successful, and it’s because of me. Back in my other time, it’s the same. I take care of my farm, sell lumber when it’s time, plus I built the cabin. It’s my home, now, and then. And I do a good job at all of it."

Mary: That old book you referred to said that the Portal needed to be closed, no more trips back and forth. Why is it still open?

Uriah: "Because Eryn deserves to know what it was like in her past life. Remember, she has no memory of her life before age 17? She needs to see where she left me in 1882. She has a right to know about her parents."

Mary: I hear sadness in your voice.

Uriah: "We were cheated! Everyone should have left well enough alone! I would have helped her get through her pain. The old man should have left us alone!

He stood and headed for the door.

Uriah: "I think this is enough questions for now. Thanks, but I have to go."

Mary: Thank you for your time, Uriah.

He twisted the doorknob then turned and walked out.

Later when I saw Uriah, he wanted me to tell you that even though sometimes he comes off as being domineering and a little rough, and quite often wanting things his own way, he does it for a reason, and the reason is Eryn. Do you want to get to know Uriah better? To find out what it’s like to shove a strand of hair behind his ear, feel his arms around you, hear him say, "I love you?" Then ask me how to pick up a copy of Visions of Enchantment, and then the second book in the Enchantment series, Enchantment’s Embrace. Books three and four are in the distant future. You’ll be glad you met this handsome hero! I’d love to hear from you.
